Getting started
Your Home Site
The observing location the app plans and forecasts around.
Your Home Site is the observing location OWC treats as your base. It is one of your Saved Sites — the one marked as home.
The app shows your Home Site but cannot change it. Saved Sites and the home marker are managed on the OWC website; View Saved Sites on the Account screen opens that page.
What it is used for
More than it first appears — most of what the app tells you about an event is relative to this one location.
| Where | What it does |
|---|---|
| Weather | Cloud cover, temperature and wind are forecast for your Home Site, on My Events and Search Events alike. |
| The shadow plot | The small marker on an event's plot is your Home Site, showing how far it falls from the centre line. |
| Announcing a station | The Observe from… button on a Search Events result announces a station at your Home Site, and names it so you can see which site you are committing to. |
| The path map | The map opens centred near your Home Site rather than on an arbitrary part of the path. |
| Elevation data | The terrain zone covering your Home Site is protected from deletion, so the area you observe from most keeps its fine detail. See The path map. |
If no Home Site is set
The Account screen reads (not set — see Saved Sites). The app still works, but weather will be missing, the plot will have no marker for you, and there is nowhere for Observe from… to announce a station.
Set one on the website, then pull down on the Account screen so the app reads it again.
Changing your Home Site on the website changes what the app forecasts and plots, but it does not move stations you have already announced. To move one of those, use Move Station on Event Detail.
