Phase 1

  • OW Cloud computes all events with only AstOrb & Gaia DR2 and makes them available for tagging. Error bars are from AstOrb's PEU as computed by Occult.
  • OW Cloud's Upload Events page is made operational and is used to tag events found in Occult using the current workflow by all Feed Maintainers.
  • OW Cloud uses the predictions and error bars as computed by Occult by the Feed Maintainers. (During Phase 1 this will produce more accurate predictions and error bars)
  • OW Cloud's Upload Events page can be used to upload updates of existing, already tagged events.
  • The following feeds are moved to OWC using tagged events:
    1. NA Low Mag
    2. Trans-Tasman Low Mag
    3. IBEROC Events
    4. UKOCL Events
  • OW Feeds remain the same but predictions are now coming from OWC. There is no more need to generate the HTML files from Occult and host them on a web site. You can still keep a web page for information about your feed as shown in OW. For example the UKOCL has such a page http://ukoccultations.info/ and the other feeds can have their own pages updated.
  • Event page is created on OWC to replace the EventDetails.html page from the Occult generated feeds.
  • A new version of OW is released that knows now to fetch the feeds from OWC.

Phase 2

  • OW Cloud computes all events, now with only Horizons & Gaia DR3 and makes them available for tagging. Error bars are from AstOrb's PEU as computed by Occult.
  • Once an event is Tagged, OW Cloud computes the most accurate prediction using osculating elements at the time of the occultation and error bars from Horizon's POS error ellipse and Gaia error bars at epoch
  • OWC automatically monitors, computes and makes an updated prediction available for the tagged events when the corresponding Horizons orbit is updated. This means that events will need to be tagged only once and no updates will need to be provided by the Feed Maintainers.
  • Optional/Discuss: The following feeds can be also moved to OWC but the actual uploaded predictions will be used, instead of those computted by OWC using Horizons orbits. We can choose which ones to be done in Phase 1 and which ones in a separate phase:
    1. ITALOccult Events
    2. RIO TNO Events
    3. Lucky Star Events
    4. Rio Satellite Events
    5. Comet Occultations
After Phase 1 and Phase 2 are completed, the remaining functionality can be grouped into Features which can be implemented in any order we choose but some features will be naturally dependent on others. The order in which these can be implemented and released is something up for a discussion.
Feature MP-1: Multiple predictions with different orbits in OW
  • OWC automatically computes the predictions with the latest orbits from AstDyS, MPC and AstrOrb
  • OW has an ability to display the different predictions and the end user to choose which one to display
  • Optional: An ability in OW to compare the predictions on a single screen
Feature IO-1: IOTA Occultations in OWC
  • Build an index page in HTML format with Occult's map plot and other info for all IOTA Occultation events
  • Before prediction can no longer be posted on http://www.asteroidoccultation.com/, OW Cloud will need to provide all important HTML pages functionality that would be otherwise lost.
Feature CF-1: Cloud Filters
  • OW Cloud's Filters and Tag Events pages are made operational.
  • Feed Maintainers can now use those pages to tag the events in their feeds, rather than using Occult and uploading the .occelmnt from the Upload Events page
Feature CF-2: Automatic Cloud Filters
  • Make it possible events to be tagged automatically so as long as the Tag Maintainer keeps the filter up to date, the events will be tagged and published automatically.
Feature PT-1: Public Tags
  • OW Cloud's Tags page is made operational.
  • Anyone is allowed to register a Tag Maintainer account and start tagging events. This is what will make possible new 'feeds' to be published and advertised by the Tag Maintainer
  • OW is updated to support the dymanic nature of Tags. After this update new Tags/feeds will be immediately visible in OW after the tag has been created on OWC and will not require an update of OW.
Feature PP-1: Cloud Personal Predictions
  • OW users can use the Filters and Tag Events pages to search for personal predictions and tag them with their own personal tag.
  • Dependent on features: CF-1, CF-2 and PT-1
Feature TM-1: Tag Maintainers Info
  • OW Cloud's Home page is made operational with information that provides gudance to Tag Maintainers about the usage of their tags, ideally helping them modify their searches to be more useful.
  • Dependent on features: CF-1
Feature OWW-1: Occult Watcher Web (read-only)
  • A web interface is released similar to OW Mobile, that will allow users to check their 'My Events' and additionally report observation and cancel station.
Feature OWW-2: Occult Watcher Web
  • A purely web version of OW is released that is independent from desktop OW. This will help non-Windows users to use OW and coordinate their observing efforts.
  • Dependent on features: OWW-1
